Hunter Valley weddings are usually outdoors, usually on an estate or vineyard property, and frequently spread across a weekend because guests stay locally. That combination shapes the styling before any aesthetic decision is made.

Restraint outdoors

Vines, hills and established trees are doing an enormous amount of visual work already. Heavy styling in that setting competes and loses. The version that works is a clean ceremony structure, a considered aisle and then getting out of the way.

Generosity under the marquee

The opposite applies once you are under fabric. A marquee has a soft ceiling and usually no walls, which means lighting and suspended work earn far more than table detail does. Festoon, hanging installations and properly planned lighting are what turn a tent into a room, and they become essential once the sun goes, because the valley gets genuinely dark.

Heat is a real constraint

Summer in the Hunter is hot, and florals installed at eight in the morning have a long day ahead of them. Variety selection, when things are installed and where they sit relative to direct sun all matter. Some flowers simply will not survive the day, and it is better to hear that at the brief.

Wind more than rain

Open valley sites are exposed. Tall arrangements, arbours and anything with surface area need weighting and structural allowance specified for the site rather than a standard indoor spec.

The wet weather plan is not optional

On an estate the alternative is usually a barn, a cellar door or a second marquee, and moving between them takes real time. What moves, how long it takes, when the decision is made and who makes it are all fixed in advance and quoted where a second install is required.
